Learning Objectives
At the completion of this continuing medical education
activity, the participant should be able to:
Differentiate Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
and asthma on the basis of clinical and physiological
features.
Identify how differences in airway inflammation impact
response to treatment in COPD and asthma.
Describe clinical features that guide decision making
in management of COPD.
Assess the smoking status of patients with respiratory
and/or cardiovascular symptoms.
Assure that smoking cessation counseling and therapy
are readily available for patient referral.
Identify symptoms that suggest depression in the
COPD patient.
Recognize weight loss as a potentially severe
complication in the COPD patient.
